About Congregations for Community Action
CCA empowers ordinary people with the skills to work with public officials through the democratic process to bring meaningful quality of life changes to the community.
CCA does this through 10 member congregations, meeting 1-1 with members to hear their concerns and to involve them in their church’s local organizing committee. They in turn meet 1-1 with friends, church members, family and neighbors to hear issues. The leaders (volunteers) then work on the issue of most concern to their community. Using the skills gained through the development training CCA provides, the leaders conduct research and meet with public officials at the local, state and even national level to find who and how the issue can be resolved.
CCA has chosen to develop a congregation-based model of community organizing not out of religious intent but because church congregations are often the only institutions with values remaining in our neighborhoods. CCA offers its congregations as the best way of bringing many people together to address and resolve community issues, making Brevard County a better place to live, work, play and raise families.
Congregations for Community Action is a 501c3 corporation established in 2000. CCA is an affiliate of PICO (People Improving Communities through Organizing), which serves a national network of congregation-based community organizations.
