About Congregations for Community Action Congregations for Community Action is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation established in 2001. CCA is a multi-ethnic, interdenominational organization representing 35,000 people and working through 10 congregations in Brevard County. CCA is an affiliate of the People Improving Communities through Organizing (PICO), which serves a national network of congregation-based community organizations. CCA has chosen to develop a congregation-based model of community organization not out of religious intent but because church congregations are often the only institutions with values remaining in our neighborhoods. CCA is able to see the pain families live with in its communities, and offers its congregations as the best way of bring many people together. Our real story is told through our leaders and the 35,000 people they represent. When CCA goes into a congregation, we work with people who may not have leadership skills but who have dreams and hopes for a better community and a brighter tomorrow. Our training teaches them organizational skills, research and analytical skills, public speaking skills and team work. These skills empower them to reach out into their neighborhoods, find out the concerns, research possible solutions and work through officials or agencies to put those solutions into effect. |
